The Central board of excise and custom has extended the last date for filing service tax return by five days from April 25 to April 30 .The Form ST – 3 for the period from October 1,2016 to March 31 ,2017 can now be submitted till 30th April 2017. It will provide great relief to lakhs of service providers who were due to file their service tax returns. No late fee will apply to returns filed by 30th April 2017.
The Service tax returns have to be filed online on www.aces.gov.in. The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) said that the due date is being extended as the assesses faced “intermittent difficulties” in accessing the ACES (Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax) website on April 25.
However, going forward as GST regime is expected to take over from July 1, 2017. So,this return filing of service tax may be the last return on standalone basis on ST-3 form. The new GST regime will then regulate the return filings of all subsumed central and local taxes. And hopefully the current difficulty faced by servicetax payers regarding accessing the website will no longer exist. The GSTN Portal is expected to cater to 3bn transactions a month for 8mn taxpayers. Trial runs with 3,000 taxpayers is expected to begin from May 1.
As per Order 1/2017 dated 25th April 2017 of the CBEC (Service Tax Wing).
