Relieving letter is a formal letter that is issued to the employee at the time of leaving an organization. In this article, we will understand about the relieving letter format in detail.
Relieving letter is the formal way of informing the employee that his/her resignation has been accepted and he is relieved from his responsibilities and duties he/she was bound with subject to the contract of employment signed by him/her. This letter is required to be submitted to the future employers.
This is important because, while joining a new company an employee is asked to submit the relieving letter from the previous organization. This acts as a written proof that the employee has left the previous company without any issues.
This letter is issued to an employee by the employer on the last working day or upon receipt of the request for the issuance of the same. This document should be printed on the letterhead of the company where the employee has worked. It has to be signed by the authorised representative i.e HR manager of the company.
In most of the states, a relieving letter or service certificate should be provided to the employees promptly at the time of leaving the organization. This is governed by the Shops and Establishments Act.
