Deadline to file tax returns extended to 5 August 2017

The Income Tax Department has announced an extension on the deadline to file income tax returns. The new return filing deadline for FY 2016-17 (AY 2017-18) is 5 August 2017. The extension was announced today from the previous deadline of 31 July 2017.

Taxpayers who have an income of more than ₹5 lakh have to compulsorily e-file income tax returns. You can upload your Form 16 on ClearTax and finish e-filing in just 7 minutes.

The e-filing deadline is important and you should file your income tax returns before the deadline to:

  • Carry forward losses from previous years
  • Avoid paying interest on tax due
  • Claim a full tax refund without loss of interest

Make sure you e-file income tax returns right away, even if the deadline has been extended, to avoid any last minute rush. Log in to your ClearTax account and finish e-filing in a matter of minutes.
